The incoming photons are then picked up by the anode, which is a semiconductor material and gives off electrical currents when the electrons near it strike the electrodes and give out photons. The electrons near the anode are knocked loose by an electric current and flow as electrical currents to an electrode. These electrons then create a voltage between the battery and the electrode, which create an electrical current when it strikes an electrical wire.
